Gap Inc. is a signatory of the Social and Labor Convergence Program (SLCP), which is an apparel and footwear industry initiative to implement a common assessment to tackle audit fatigue and to ultimately free up resources to improve working conditions. The industry has worked together to develop this “common assessment framework” (CAF), which consists of a data collection tool, verification protocol and verification guidance, with the execution model being self-assessment plus verification; implementation is now underway.
SLCP can benefit manufacturers and brands alike by addressing the issue of audit fatigue through one data set that can be shared with all buyers. This saves time and resources that can be redirected to driving improvement. There is also the benefit of facility ownership, as the facility decides who can access their verified data and takes the lead during the self-assessment process.
